Japan’s First Female Photojournalist Has Died At The Age Of 107

Soniko Sasamoto, Japan’s first female photojournalist and a well-known photographer, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 107. Reports from international media indicate that Soniko Sasamoto passed away on August 15, just two weeks before she would have turned 108 years old. In 1914, Tokyo was the location of the birth of Japan’s first female photojournalist. After her father dissuaded her from pursuing a career in painting, she changed her focus to photography and became a member of the Photographic Association of Japan in the year 1940.
